Attracting Diverse Talent For Your Company

Attracting Diverse Talent in Cypress, TX

Attracting diverse talent to work for a company is a harder task than one might think. There is a surge in demand for employees with diverse skills, knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Diversity in the workplace has emerged into the spotlight as well which makes this more difficult. However, there are some actions you can take to attract diverse talent. Some of these actions include:

  • Write Inclusive Job Descriptions

When writing job descriptions, using inclusive, gender-neutral language can do wonders in gaining attention from nontraditional candidates. Avoiding words that are perceived as masculine or feminine, instead use universal words which allow your company’s values to connect to the job itself.

  • Define What Diversity Means to You

Many companies do not do this. Defining diversity in your company lets people know that you recognize and value them. Often, our definitions of diversity are too narrow and exclude gender identity or physical ability, and many more. Letting candidates know you recognize and value them encourages them to apply.

  • Conduct Blind Resume Reviews

Conducting blind resume reviews limits unconscious bias that can lead to qualified candidates getting screened out before an interview even occurs. Bias can result from the candidate’s name, what college they attended, or even the sports they played. In a blind resume review, details that indicate gender or race are hidden. This helps reduce the potential of unconscious bias leading to more diversity in your candidates reaching the interview stage.

  • Personalize Your Equal Employment Opportunity Statement

Almost all companies use the generic, government-provided equal employment opportunity statement which makes it seem like you are including it just for compliance reasons. Personalizing your EEO statement shows that you care and value under-represented people. An example would be: “At ABC Company, we celebrate the rich diversity of the Cypress, TX community and are committed to maintaining an inclusive environment for all employees”.

Although these are only a few of the ways you can encourage diverse talent to join your company, it is a good start. We, at R & H Staffing Services, LLC, understand that this can be a challenging task for most. That is why we are here to help.
