Make Sure Your Technology Works

Before starting a meeting or an interview, it's important to check your technology to ensure it is working properly. Check your camera and microphone, as well as your internet connection. Make a backup plan just in case there is an issue. Having a secondary internet connection is important just in case something happens with the first connection. If you have an extra microphone, camera, or headset, keep it nearby just in case.

Avoid Multitasking

While you are in a meeting or interview, you want to give your full attention. If you are multitasking, your focus will be on other things which could make you look distracted and unprofessional. Don't check your phone or reply to other emails as those can wait until after your meeting or interview. If you are not fully paying attention and someone asks you a question, you could come off as rude or unprofessional, and even embarrass yourself.

When you are in a meeting or interview, it's important to mute your microphone at certain times. When someone is talking, your microphone could pick up on background noise, which may be disruptive to others. It's okay to mute your microphone unless you’re speaking and ask others to do the same.

Sometimes during a meeting, it is hard to hold the attention of your audience.
